If we don't change, we don't grow. If we don't grow, we aren't really living.
-Gail Sheehy
My district is ending its first year in our Digital Transformation, a year of reflecting on the teaching practice and incorporating chromebooks into that practice. No tech for tech's sake, just real, authentic learning.
With this rollout, we've learned to be flexible and even redefine our ideas. It's only the first year. We are still planning, talking and evaluating how we are doing and what can be made better for next year.
While I was on a run a few weeks back, I happened upon this lovely Bradford pear tree to illustrate my idea of how we are changing in my district.

Notice how not all of the tree is blossoming it's pollen-filled buds yet?
Do you see how the bottom right branch is almost fully bloomed whereas the top is only starting to bud?

Change can't happen all at once. It takes time, a wee bud at a time. Change starts off slowly, a branch at a time, until the whole tree is flourishing. You have to have a strong trunk in order for the branches to bloom. Change will come, just like Spring always does.
As a district-level technology coach, I view my responsibility as one of helping the change happen for the good of everyone - helping others bloom in their own time for the good of all learners, whether educators or students.
Change takes time. Change is beautiful when it happens. Meaningful, reflective change is good.
